  3. What will we present? • Who is Korat food cluster ? • What we learn from? • What are our suggestion? • What we can do in our cluster?

  4. Who is Korat Cluster (KC)? • One of six cluster supports from the department of industrial promotion-region 6 with initial capital from two million Bath from Gov’t and some from members • Established on 17 May 2008 • with currently 24 members

  5. What is KC’sVision / Mission? • Cluster to link from upstream to downstream to exchange information and innovate the products to meet the international standard. • To be more competitive in the markets

  6. What do they have? • Swine farm • Food processing such as sausage ( fish, pork, low fat Chinese sausage) • Fish sauce / Chili sauce/ Other sauces • Curry puff • Cookie • More...

  7. Where do they sell to? • Only local market currently • And potential to export ( looking for export markets)

  9. What are their challenges? • Finance • Raw Material • Economic of Scale and • Human Resource ( skilled workers)

What did we learn from them? • Competitiveness of the food industry for the member of cluster • The cluster initiate from funding and technical support from Gov’t. • Bulk raw material ordering • Negotiation power for the members to buy or sell. • Sharing information for market, technique, and raw material

  11. what are our suggestions to KC? • Concrete plan to self operation • Human Resource development for executive unit • Contribution from the members for operation cost • Seeking other support from others ( fund raising from companies or donors) • Comprehensive information database for members

  12. What we can do in our cluster? • Service for member ( organize trade fair, exhibition, Networking, business matching...) • Establish the cluster with minimal Gov’t support • Seeking for support from relevant stakeholders • Develop the strong executive team • Leverage on our preferential treatment from developed markets such as EU, USA ( EBA..)
