What do we do? • Whole-School Guidance model • Alpha split to work with students and families from grade 9 through grade 12 • Work with students on: • Academic • Scheduling balance, study skills, time management, tech tips • Naviance: Learning Style Inventory • Social • Friendship issues, harm minimization strategies • Personal/Emotional • CONFIDENTIAL family issues, guardianship, self-harm, responsible choices • Naviance: Personality Profile • Outside referrals, if necessary

Post-WAB Preparation • All students, beginning in grade 10 with course selection • Career research • Naviance: Career Interest Profiler • Career Fair (Wednesday, Feb 16th, 2011) • World of Work • University Applications • Each student has individualized plan for applications • Education of families about different countries’ requirements and process (ie. Destination Coffee Mornings)
Testing Timeline • Grade 9: • Should do WELL in all their academic assessment (Have good solid grades for their WAB transcript) • Grade 10: • Take PSAT in mid-Oct • Continue to do WELL in all their academic course assessment • Grade 11: • PSAT in mid-Oct • SAT in Spring (Jan, May, June) • ACT (with writing) in Spring (April, June) • TOEFL or IELTS in Spring • Grade 12: • SAT in Fall (Oct, Nov, Dec) • ACT (with writing) in Fall (Oct, Dec) • IB Exams in May

Role of parent • Support of ASA Program – Balance of school work and after school activities • Encourage free time – Doing Vs. Being • Check your language, do not use “we” or “our” • Celebrate no matter what – be proud of your child’s efforts • Manage your anxiety – Parent is the shoreline
Parent of Grade 11 & 12 • Treat College Admissions Process like you’re watching a performance • Make your child do all the work • Manage the timelines and deadlines • Insist on Integrity – Especially on early programs, and depositing • Help them protect their privacy
