Who... All Principal Investigators with laboratories using any form of: - recombinant DNA (including Txg animals & plants) - pathogenic microorganisms - human / non-human primate tissues (including cell lines) - other biohazardous agents All personnel working in such laboratories BioSafety-’10-MRAM
What... On-line training modules... - scheduled for roll-out December 14 or In-person training (offered monthly) Required initially and every three years BioSafety-’10-MRAM
Why... Required as a condition of the University receiving funding from the NIH (NIH Guidelines, Section IV-B-1-h) Response to Site Visit by NIH Office of Biotechnology Activities General Duty Clause, WA State Labor & Industry (WAC Core Rule 296-800-11005) BioSafety-’10-MRAM

PI's must apply for and receive Biological Use Authorization for work with any biohazards (including recDNA) - failure to do so places all UW funding at risk Please check box EHS-1 (use of pathogens or biohazards) under "Compliance Questions" section of eGC1 for grants involving any biohazards (including any recDNA) BioSafety-’10-MRAM
