Purposes of designing the courseappreciate > compare > criticize • Students are aimed to develop abilities to appreciate Chinese musical cultures. • In addition, students will be introduced to pertinent issues and processes of Chinese music (including cultural modernization, globalization, gender and sexuality, and concepts of musical authenticity and revival). • Furthermore, students are encouraged to criticize cultural issues of Chinese music in global perspective by the comparison among different musical cultures.
