Family Planning Is a Cross-Cutting Solution in International Development
“ These meetings have provided the momentum to ensure that family planning doesn’t get left out this time...What makes family planning so powerful is that you can talk to anybody about whatever their key interest is and usually find a path where family planning can help them get to what they’re most interested in doing. That’s what’s going to keep it on the agenda and really solidify it.--Ellen Starbird

“ But could those two measurements be combined to create a more powerful, more complete indicator of family planning progress in countries around the world? Experts from the US Agency for International Development, the US Census Bureau, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health, and IntraHealth International think the answer is yes.
“ Every second of the thousands of hours of everyone’s hard work to make ICFP happen was justified for me when I had a conversation with a young man from Bangladesh. He came up to the USAID booth and told me that he was a SRH volunteer counselor in his extremely remote home village in Bangladesh. He said, eyes glistening while he looked around at the scores of colorful and creative booths, "I have never, ever seen anything like this...there is so much knowledge...so much to learn...it is just beautiful, an incredible experience... There is nothing like this in my village."
“ Possibly his eye-opening experience was repeated thousands of times by other conference participants. --Maureen Norton
