  1. Betsy Ross I say there are are 5 pointed stars! And what I say goes! Creator of our flag

How She Started • Betsy went to a Quaker school and received a formal education. • She became an apprentice for a popular upholster and fell in love with her fellow upholster John Ross and they got married agents her parents will. • The started there own upholstery business together. • He died and after she married various times.

  3. The flag • Betsy was visited by George washing ton and he asked her to make the flag • Her Daughter designed it but she sewed it . .There were 13 stars when she made the flag for the 13 colonies .g.w. wanted 6 points for each star but she put 5

  4. Musket Ball Room • Betsy didn’t only make the flag but she also invented nifty pockets for soldiers to put extra gun powder and bullets • She called it “musket ball room” • They soon became very helpful and popular and became a regular part of the Army uniforms

  5. Betsy's sad life • Betsy married a non Quaker man even though she was raised Quaker so her family disowned her. • Shortly after they got married he died. • She had many brothers and sisters but not all of them lived because one died. • Her mom , dad and sister all died with in days of each other with yellow fever. • She had to adopt her sisters kid after she died even though her sister disowned her. • She married many times. • Most of her children died…

  6. wrapping it up! • Over all Betsy was an important member of the American community,she helped the army, made our flag, and most importantly she set a new standard for women at a time when most women didn’t work. • Thought her life she beat the odds and became a great seamstress an a talented upholster.

  7. Now days you can visit her grave and her house in Philadelphia!
