The Decline of Rome • Decline of Roman Empire from C3rd • 410 Rome sacked by Visigoths • waves of ‘barbarian’ invasions (or migrations?) - Huns, Lombards, Vandals, Ostrogoths, Franks • 476 last western emperor stands down • BUT eastern (Byzantine) empire survives
