  10. Parsha June 19th • Torah… Num. 19:1 – 22:1 • Haftarah… Judges 11:1 - 33 • Brit Hadasha… John 11 – 12 • We’re going to study Numbers 19!

  11. Why This Passage? Numbers 19 is the story of the red heifer. There’s a lot of confusion on this portion of Scripture, not only from the Christian side but also the Jewish side.

  12. Why This Passage? On the Jewish side they’re so confused that they wont even address the story. On the Christian side you can hear about all kinds of nonsense about the red heifer. Most Jewish commentators wont touch it with a ten foot pole.

  13. Why This Passage? This passage in the Torah has troubled Jewish sages/Rabbis etc. clear back to the earliest figures of Rabbinic Judaism.

  14. Why This Passage? Yose ben Hanina all the way back to the 3rd century said: "The Holy One, blessed be He, said to Moses: 'To you will I disclose the reason for the heifer, but to anybody else it is a statute (law)'"

  15. Why This Passage? So unfortunately that pretty much ended most Jewish discussion. It left some Rabbis, even today, to conclude that the whole thing meant nothing. That the very point of the ritual is that it has no meaning.

  16. Why This Passage? We’ll get into some of the confusion on the Christian side shortly but lets go ahead and start the running commentary (verse by verse rant )

  17. Parsha June 19th Numbers 19 (today’s Parsha) 1And speaketh unto Moses, and unto Aaron, saying, 2`This [is] a statute of the law which hath commanded, saying, Speak unto the sons of Israel, and they bring unto thee a red cow, a perfect one, in which there is no blemish, on which no yoke hath gone up;

  18. Red Heifer Parah means cow and adumah means red. Adumah is the same word as used for Adam (Adum) When Adam was created he was red.

  19. Red Heifer • Adumah is also the word used for blood “dum” • More then likely Adam was created out of red clay or…

  20. Red Heifer • he had a relatively transparent skin which showed a lot of blood thus making him appear… reddish.

  21. Red Heifer There are groups out there today that are looking for a perfect “parah adumah” (red heifer).

  22. Red Heifer The Temple Institute

  23. Red Heifer It sounds like a miracle! What they don’t tell you is that the two men who were part of this, one so called “Rabbi” and a “Preacher” from the US got together and flew in a pregnant red cow from another country and boom, it was called a miracle.

  24. Red Heifer There are thousands of red angus in the world so anyone who wanted to and had a few bucks to do it, could fly one in.

  25. Red Heifer • So these groups out there looking for the “parah adumah” are making big bucks from Churches all over the USA. • They tell people that if they find a perfect red heifer that the Temple can then be rebuilt.

  26. Red Heifer And they can sacrifice this red heifer and use it’s ashes for purification purposes for the Levitical priesthood. There are variations of this scam.

  27. Red Heifer Some say they don’t need a red heifer right now but that they must find the original ashes of the red heifer that was kept in a container in the Second Temple and then if they find these ashes Jesus can return.

  28. Red Heifer You can donate towards the Second Coming by contributing your dollars to their search. If you don’t… then Jesus can’t come back.

  29. Red Heifer The truth is, the heifer doesn’t have to be that perfect. It is blown wayyyy out of proportion and G-d can ably provide any cows needed at that time.

  30. Red Heifer He doesn’t need man’s puny help and He isn’t relying on any one man so that He can come again.

  31. Red Heifer I’ve known some of these men personally and their egos are enormous. (Dr.) Gary Collette was one of them. I knew him when he first came to Israel about 20+ years ago. I helped him get settled in Jerusalem and helped him learn the ropes about how to live in the country.

  32. Red Heifer It wasn’t until much later I found out what he was involved in. I used to have him and his family over for dinner quite often. In Israel it wasn’t easy back then to get any American food. But I had friends who worked in the American consulate and they’d get me anything I wanted from their commissary.

  33. Red Heifer So I’d have over a few of the missionaries I knew whenever I could and feed them American food that we all missed. Gary and his wife Debra and 2 sons and his one sons wife would come over almost everyday.

  34. Red Heifer They were from here in Washington State After we had become friends for a while I asked him how he got his support to live in Israel and he told me.

  35. Red Heifer He was looking for the ashes of the red heifer. He later told the rest of the messianic community in Jerusalem and they all basically shunned him.

  36. Red Heifer I didn’t shun him though, I still tried to be his friend But I explained to him that there was no need to search for these ashes that we could simply sacrifice another red cow when we needed to.

  37. Red Heifer Then later he told me he was involved with Vendel Jones. Well, Vendel Jones is a known con artist who says he’s out looking for the ashes of the red heifer and the ark of the covenant.

  38. Red Heifer Vendel was caught red handed in quite a few lies but he’s still out there getting money from naïve Christians who believe his tales.

  39. Red Heifer Back to the portion… This is the only place in Scripture that refers to a “red heifer”. You wont even find it in Leviticus. However…

  40. Red Heifer I do believe there is a reference to it in the Brit Hadasha (New Testament) in the book of “The Letter to the Messianic Jews” also known as the book of Hebrews. Where it says…

  41. Red Heifer Hebrews 9 13 For if sprinkling ceremonially unclean persons with the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer restores their outward purity; 14 then how much more the blood of the Messiah, who, through the eternal Spirit, offered himself to G-d as a sacrifice without blemish, will purify our conscience from works that lead to death, so that we can serve the living G-d!

  42. Red Heifer What this is saying is that the red heifer purified the priests, so how much more will Yeshua purify us?

  43. Eleazar & Sons Numbers 19 (today’s Parsha) 3and ye have given it unto Eliezar the priest, and he hath brought it out unto the outside of the camp, and hath slaughtered it before him.

  44. Eleazar & Sons This red heifer was given to Eliezar to be killed. It was to be young, innocent, free and full of life. The ‘reddish’ color signifies the first man, Adum (Adam) who was red.

  45. Eleazar & Sons The unblemished state signified its perfection. It epitomized the life of the ideal clean man or woman in innocence. This sacrifice was a foreshadow of Yeshua.

  46. Eleazar & Sons This honor of the first sacrifice of the red heifer was given to Eliezar. Eliezar was 1 of four sons of Aaron.

  47. Eleazar & Sons Two of his brothers were named Nadav and Aviwho. Nadav means “giving or generous” What does Aviwho mean? Av-who

  48. Eleazar & Sons These two men are known in English as Nadab and Abihu the ones who brought “strange fire”.

  49. Eleazar & Sons Leviticus 10 1."Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer, and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and offered unholy fire before The Lord, such as He had not commanded them. And fire came forth from the presence of The Lord and devoured them, and they died before The Lord."
