Independent Brazilian Soy Crushers • Independent crushers process millions of tons of soybeans • They go quietly about their business & import most of non-GMO soy meal to EU • This volume has risen steadily since 1998 • Contrary to widespread views: This volume can grow almost without limitation

  3. Brazil overview Soybeans • 2003: 52.6 million t • 2004: 49.9 million t • 2005: 50.2 million t GMO share 2005 <20% more than 40 million t “without genetic modification” Total EU soymeal consumption in 2005: approx. 36.6 million t (from approx. 45.7 million t soybeans)

  8. Independent Soy Crushers • Besides IMCOPA, there are several others • Some, but not all, import directly into EU • Entire Non-GMO soy meal demand in EU can easily be satisfied • All it takes is systematic European demand
