Green Design Toner Bottle Recycling • All Konica Minolta toner bottles are made of HDPE, or High Density Polyethylene -- identified by the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) as one of the two types of plastics that can be recycled most economically. • These toner bottles are designed to be collected and recycled at local facilities, reducing fuel and gas required by shipping.

Green Design Bizhub MFPs Designed With Recycling In Mind • Plastic parts are made of recycled materials where possible. • All plastic parts are marked to indicate the type of resin used. • Labels that leave no adhesive residue are used. • To simplify recycling, parts are designed so that they can be disassembled by a single person without special tools. • In 1991, began using cardboard and pulp molds for packaging. • Was first company to use bagasse paper (paper made from crushed stalks of sugar cane) for operator’s manuals

Green Design Power Only Where You Need It • In operation, most Konica Minolta models optimize power consumption for each operating mode -- controlling the flow of power to save energy wherever possible. Green Design Use of Organic Photoconductor Technology • Since 1938, original copiers used a photoconductor (drum) that was coated with arsenic and selenium, two very toxic substances • This technology was used by all subsequent models for years, and some also added cadmium, which is also toxic • In 1983, Minolta introduced the EP450Z copier that used an organic photoconductor (OPC) drum that had coating based on kelp (seaweed) Further enhanced in 2005 with patented addition of Flourine coating. Konica used first with launch of U-bix1200 copier in 1984 • All manufacturers now use this technology • with exception of Kyocera (ASi – ceramic)
