  2. Shape and Wall • Rod shaped – called Bacilli • Gram Negative • Cell Wall: • Lipopolysaccharides as outer membrane • Joined by lipoprotein molecules • Lipid A anchors the lipopolysaccharide layer to the lipidbilayer • Teichoicacids are absent

  3. Specialized • It is O-specific, which is opposite of lipid A • Has Porin Proteins allowing molecule transport through the outer membrane • Not sensitive to lysosomes

  4. Growth, oh my! • Above rapid growth • Doubling time is 18minutes • Dormant in room temperature • Between 20 and 25 degrees C • (about 70 degrees F) • Mesophile • between 20 and 45 degrees C
