National Digital Stewardship Alliance • National – whole country’s involved; not international • Digital – born digital or born-again digital; electronic • Stewardship – caring for heritage assets that belong to other institutions and to other generations • Alliance – advancing common interests and cause (sounds like there’s movement) June 2009

Content • Contributing significant materials to the national collection to be preserved and made available to current and future generations • Annual additions to the national collection • Content creators looking for a steward • Libraries, archives & traditional stewardship organizations
Standards & Practices • Developing, following and promoting effective methods for selecting, organizing, preserving, and serving digital content • Perhaps developing certification paths • Education and training
Infrastructure • Developing and maintaining tools for curation and preservation • Providing storage, hosting, migration, or similar services for the long-term preservation of digital content • Building a collection of open source tools • Services suited to different requirements • Different types, scopes and scales
Innovation • Encouraging and conducting research in digital preservation science and technologies • Periodically describing a research agenda • Taking up research challenges identified by the Alliance • Disseminating research findings
Outreach & Education • Building relationships with stakeholder communities and preparing and sharing training resources and guides.
