  1. Branches of Science Science is divided into many branches, some of the examples are: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, Geology and Ecology

  2. Scientific Investigation Scientific investigation consists of five steps, they are: Step 1: Make Observations Step 2: Make a hypothesis Step 3: Carry out experiment(s) Step 4: Record and analyse Step 5: Draw a conclusion

  3. Laboratory Equipments (設備) • Science laboratories are equipped with a lot of equipments so that we can carry out experiments properly (適當地). Some of the examples are: Gas tap, …...

  4. Moreover, there are also a number of safety equipments. For example: First aid box, ……..

  5. Apparatus Function dropper to a small amount of liquid reagentbottle to store conical flask, beaker to hold Laboratory Apparatus (儀器) When carrying out experiments, we may also need to use some apparatus.

  6. Apparatus Function spatula to transfer a small amount of glassrod to liquids Bunsenburner to things heat-proofmat to protect the safetyspectacles to protect your tongs to pick up and hold objects

  7. Apparatus Function measuringcylinder to measure the of liquids gasjar to hold testtube to hold a small amount of testtubeholder to hold a during heating testtuberack to hold

  8. Bunsen burner • Bunsen burner was invented(發明)by Michael Faraday and improved(改良)by Robert Bunsen. • It is used for heating things in the laboratory.

  9. chimney collar air hole rubber tubing base • Basic structure of a Bunsen burner

  10. The correct steps of lighting a Bunsen burner is as follows: • Connect the burner to the gas tap. • Close the air hole of the burner. • Light a match and put it just above the chimney of the burner. • Turn on the gas tap. • Open the air hole. Before lighting up the Bunsen burner, we should put a bench mat under the burner.

  11. Blue flame is hotter, noisier and has a regular shape. The inner cone of a blue flame contains unburnt gas. That is why it is not very hot. • Yellow flame is less hot, quieter and has an irregular shape.

  12. Measuring Temperature • The temperature of an object tells us how cold and hot it is. • The most common temperature scales are Celsius 攝氏(oC) and Fahrenheit 華氏(oF) • Temperature can be measured by using thermometers .

  13. vacuum Mercury or coloured alcohol
