  1. Cooperating like a scientist ENGAGE: Biology A

  2. Being A Scientist When faced with a problem or a puzzle, how do you figure things out? You might answer, “I think about them.” But are you aware of how you think? This biology program focuses on science as one of the ways humans understand and explain their world. The activities throughout this program encourage you to think as a scientist does. This short section is titled Engage because it engages you in the type of experiences that you will have in this course

  3. Cooperating Like A Scientist Imagine a scientist at work. Do you see a man in a white coat working alone? Scientists come in all shapes and sizes—men and women from all cultures—and they rarely work in isolation. This picture shows a group of scientists working together. Usually, two or more scientists work cooperatively to make scientific breakthroughs possible. In this activity, we will look at the role that cooperation plays in science

  4. We will study Science, But How? In your journal answer the question: How do we study science?Write 1 – 3 sentences

  5. Group Task -1 Please go to the Discussion Board and find the discussion Forum, “Group Task”. Open each thread till you find your name. Once you find your group, let your group know you are ready to go by saying, “I’m Here!” or some other positive greeting.

  6. Group Task -2 Work as a group to solve the following riddle: Riddle: In the following equation, make it true by adding one straight line. 5+ 5 + 5 = 550

  7. Hints One person should start a thread called, “we are here”. This is where you will say you are here. One person should start a thread called “riddle”. This is where you will give input on the riddle. Work to solve the riddle. Once the time limit has lapsed, reflect. (Time limit will be set by your teacher and posted in announcements)

  8. Reflection What was the easiest part of this task? What was the most difficult part of this task? What can teammates do to make communication easier online? How does this relate to the work that scientists do? Copy and paste these answers from your journal to the discussion board in your team forum. Did everyone contribute equally? Why or why not?
