  1. The Hero’s Journey The Reward (Chris vogler) By: Spencer And Logan

  2. Describing The Reward • It comes in many forms like a magical sword, reconciliation with a lover, an elixir, greater knowledge or insight. • In defeating the enemy the hero is transformed into a new state where fears are vanquished and a new fearless person is born. • It could be physical or non-physical. • In this point of the story, the hero has truly surfaced, and undergone a beneficial character arc

  3. What If It Is Not Physical? • If its not physical it could be love, it can be knowledge or experience that leads to greater understanding and reconciliation. • If its not physical it would be called the inner reward at which personal growth is achieved • Along with having better perception, the hero may have gained better insight • He’ll have more talent in the way of seeing through deception, and determining the truth. The reward part of the journey can serve as a moment of clarity for the hero, especially if he has, or is, being deceived

  4. What Does It Look Like? • The reward is earned in a way that’s not physical although the man or woman who achieves it can use it for almost anything he wantsincluding something physical or not. • The reward is what the hero has ben seeking throughout the ordeal so he can change an aspect in his life • Although the reward may seem great, the hero may not always gain the right kind of perception, he could actually begin to not perceive things at all

  5. After Earning The Reward What Can the Hero Do? • The hero can use it for pretty much anything, he can change the daily life of him and others. • After her earns the reward he is allowed to celebrate. • The hero has proved himself worthy with what he has accomplished during the ordeal so he may be knighted, get a battlefield promotion, or get inducted into whatever society he has been wanting to join. • Once the hero emerges from the Ordeal, he will be recognized as special, or different. He is now a person who as managed to overcome, or outwit death. • He or she will have better clarity of who he really is

  6. How Did The Hero Obtain The Reward? • Once the hero reaches the inmost cave, confronts the shadow, and nearly dies. He or she seizes the sought after prize called the reward. • He may have earned the reward outright or the hero may have seen no option but to steal it. • Only after the hero has survived or in his case cheats death, overcomes his greatest fear, slain the dragon, or weathered the crisis of the heart can he earn the reward.

  7. What If He Gets It Using Nefarious Ways? • Consequences of theft must always be confronted as the shadow forces race to claim the elixir that must not see the light of the ordinary world. • The hero may rationalize the elixir theft having paid for it with the test from the ordeal. • If the hero steals the reward or cheats when trying to achieve it it can and will cause many complications later on in the story

  8. Where Is It Most Useful? • The reward is most useful in the ordinary world because he can use it to change his daily life, heal the wounds of the land, and use the lessons of the adventure to heal his own wounds. • Although he can choose to use the reward in a way that benefits him he can take back to the ordinary world and help all kinds of people in different ways.
