  2. The Romance • A narrative set in the world of pure wish fulfillment, where ordinary laws of nature are suspended and where idealized and superhuman heroes (usually a knight) fight and almost always conquer the forces of evil.

  3. The Narrative Pattern • The basic narrative pattern is a quest in which the hero undertakes a pious journey in search of something of value.

  4. The three stages of the narrative: Dangerous journey or travel 2. Central test or ordeal to determine if the hero truly possesses specific qualities. 3. The return to the point from where the journey began
