  2. What is it? • Disease that affects and causes the loss of memory, thinking, and behavior. • It is a buildup of protein on the brain • Either inside the nerve cell • Or on the nerve cell

  3. Causes • Causes are still unknown • More likely to have it if it runs in your family

  4. Classification • Classified as a form of Dementia, Amnesia, and other Cognitive Disorders.

  5. Symptoms • Memory Loss/Confusion • Difficulty remembering newly learned information • Disorientation • Mood Changes • Behavioral Changes • Difficulty speaking, swallowing, or walking

  6. Treatments • NO cure yet • Doctors can only help manage the condition • Medication is given to balance chemicals in brain • Experimental Treatments

  7. Family Impact • Watching a loved one suffer from Alzheimer’s disease is tough. • It is hard to deal with them when they don’t remember a family member’s name. • Family has to keep close eye on them if they wonder or get lost.
