  5. Dred Scott Decision • Case: • Scott and his slave owner moved to a free state (Illinois) making him a free man. Then they moved back to Missouri and he was thrown back into slavery ?????????? • Supreme Court Ruling: • Against Scott • African American were not citizens therefore could not sue

John Brown’s Raid • Was an Abolitionistwho developed a plan to seize the federal arsenal @ Harpers Ferry Virginia and free and arm slaves to begin a rebellion …….. • Buchanan sent the Marines (Lee) to put down Rebellion • Brown will be captured & put to death • Becomes a martyr for the anti –slavery movement

  13. Guerrilla’s of Missouri/Kansas William Quantrill Confederateguerrilla leader during the American Civil War. After leading a Confederate bushwhacker unit along the Missouri-Kansas border in the early 1860s, which included the infamous raid and sacking of Lawrence, Kansas in 1863.

  14. Guerrilla’s of Missouri/Kansas William Anderson AKA ‘Bloody Bill’ one of the deadliest and most brutal pro-Confederateguerrilla leaders in the American Civil War. Anderson led a band that targeted Union loyalists and Federal soldiers in Missouri and Kansas.

Guerrilla’s of Missouri/Kansas Jesse and James Frank • In the summer of 1863, the James farm was brutally attacked by Union soldiers. • Jesse was 16 when he and Frank became Confederate guerrilla soldiers, riding alongside William Quantrill and “Bloody Bill” Anderson. • Was his brutality provoked? Or was it just waiting to surface? Did the Civil War create a generation of murders without a honest cause?
