  1. Data Set Manipulation • This document will review the copy and merge options using the Merge Data Sets option and the Copy Curves from Set to Set option and the Copy Empty Data Set plus the option Copy a Data Set. Each option these options contains strengths or limitations to use in specific situations. Various situations will be discussed and the best solution with the work flow will be reviewed.

  2. Accessing Merge or Copy • All merge or copy options are accessed off of the Main Menu option Edit • To select either option use your mouse and double click on the desired option.

  3. Situations and the Best Solution • 2 or more data sets over the same or similar depth range with the same or a different depth increment. The solution is Copy Curves from Set to Set. • 2 or more data sets over different depth ranges with the same depth increment. The solution is Merge Data Sets. • 2 or more data sets over various depth ranges and with various depth increments. The solution is Copy – Create Empty Data Set. • 1 large HDS database and need to create a set over a smaller more specific depth range with specific data. The solution is Copy a Data Set.

  4. Copy Curves from Set to Set • If you have 2 or more data sets over the same or similar depth range with the same or a different depth increment then from the Main Menu select Edit then Copy/Make Data Sets. Next select the button Copy Curves from Set to Set.

  5. Select Input and Output Sets • If the depth increment is different in the sets be sure to use the desired depth increment as you output set. All data imported from the input set into the output set will be resampled to the depth increment of the output set. • Also the depth range of any copied curves is limited to the depth range of the output set. • To select the sets use your mouse and click on a set in each of the forms

  6. Select Curve and Other Options • The next step is selecting curves. The listed curves are from the select Input Set. You can select all of the curves by clicking the Select Curves button or you can individually select each curve from the list by clicking on it. Selected curves will be highlighted. • If the sets contain different depth increments then the interpolation of the data can be set to linear or cubic spline. • Next click Do Copy and the curves will be copies. • If you have more sets to copy select Edit then this option and repeat the steps.

  7. Merge Data Sets • If you have 2 or more data sets over different depth ranges with the same depth increment then from the Main Menu select Edit then select Merge Sets or Curves. Next select the button Merge Two Data Sets. • The program will proceed to the Merge Sets Option

  8. Select Curves for Merging • The program will proceed the the curve selection screen. The default is all curves from both sets. If you need to remove any curves click on the curve. • Click the Continue button to proceed.

  9. Merge Point • From the this menu you can change the merge point for any curve. The default merge point is the middle of the overlap. All curves that are in both sets will be displayed on the right side of the screen. The green marker to the left of each track is the overlap area and the horizontal line is the merge point. The merge point can be changed by clicking on the curve. It is best to zoom the display by clicking on 2 points in the depth track for better screen resolution. • The merge point can be a single point (default) or over an area using either a Cubic Spine or a Linear interpolation. There are icons for these options at on the tool bar above the log tracks. The Repeat button can be used the repeat the merge point for another curve.

  10. Execute - Merge Sets • After the curves are set and the merge point is set select the Save icon to execute the procedure. The program will prompt for a new set name. Changing the default name is optional. • The merged set will be open when you return to the Main Menu.

  11. Create Empty Data Set • If you have 2 or more data sets over various depth ranges and with various depth increments select the Main menu option Edit then Copy/Make Data Sets. Once you are in the Copy options menu select Edit then Create Empty Data Set. • This option is the least used of the set manipulation options. It creates a new data set with a depth array specified by you. Once it is created you can copy curves into it no matter the depth range or the depth increment.

  12. Make the Empty Data Set • Once this option is selected a form will appear. You will set the upper and lower depth range plus the depth increment. The Default set name is Created Table. This can be changed to reference more specific information. • Once the information is input select the button Create and the set will be made. • At this time you can access the Copy Curves from set to Set and start copying the curves into the new set.

  13. Copy a Data Set • You have 1 large HDS database and need to create a set over a smaller more specific depth range with specific data then from the Main Menu select Edit then Copy/Make Data Sets. Next select the button Copy a Data Set. • From this option you will select a specific set to create the new set from, the new depth range, specific curves and if needed a new depth increment.

  14. Make Data Set - Process • The menu is divided into Set selection, Depth Range Selection, Depth Increment, Curve Selection. • You will review the inputs for each option and make your desired changes

  15. Plot Curves • Data can be plotted on screen and used as a method to select the depth range. To plot the curve select up to 3 curves from the list then click the Plot Curves button and the data will appear on the screen. To select a depth range click on any two points of any of the data tracks and the output depth range will display the new range.

  16. Select Curves & Execute • Once the Depth Range is selected either select individual curves by clicking on the curve from the list or to select all curves by selecting the Select Curves option then click the Toggle All Curves button. • Next to write the data set click the Do Copy button. The program will prompt for the Set name. The default is Copied Set.
