Local Plan Review – progress to date • Required because Local Plan Part 1 does not meet objectively assessed need (housing) • Issues and Options consultation: Jan – Mar 2015 • Options consultation: June – August 2016 • Town and parish council workshops held throughout the process to date (5 workshops between Oct 2014 and Apr 2016) • Independent review: February 2017 • Now proposing a new approach to consultation and a new timetable…

Moreton Station / Redbridge Pit Consulted on three options: • Site 4: 350 homes at Redbridge Pit (part of the Council’s overall preferred strategy) • Site 10: 500 homes at Redbridge Pit and 100 homes at Moreton Station (part of alternative option 2) • Alternative option 3: no additional homes at Moreton Station / Redbridge Pit

New approach to community engagement • Over 3,300 responses to ‘options’ consultation… • But … suggestions that material was too complex and process is too ‘top-down’ • Useful constructive meetings with local groups since November 2016 • Opportunity to build on this approach by establishing local forums and infrastructure forum

  5. Key proposals for local forums: • Opportunity for residents, town and parish councils, developers & others to discuss evidence and provide constructive suggestions • Will replace town and parish council workshops • Each forum to be chaired by Purbeck Councillor or external facilitator • All forum meetings open to the public • Seek to ensure broad age range • Council to provide secretariat support • Senior Planning Policy Officer to support each Forum

Housing White Paper: key themes • Right homes in right places: “We need to build many more houses, of the type people want to live in, in the places they want to live”. • Building homes faster: delivery test • Diversity: small sites, self-build, starter homes, housing for older people • Green Belt: need to explore all other options first • Speeding up plan-making: standardised approach to housing requirement • Neighbourhood Planning: reiterates support for Neighbourhood Plans where these allocate sites for housing
