2. Judgment Day • To distinguish between individual and general judgment • To explain with evidence how God will judge people • To reflect on how this affects the way Christians live their life What will happen?

There will also be a general judgment of societiesas a whole, as everyone together is responsible for some sins: • If you were born in a difficult time (war, famine, a time whenreligion was forbidden) this will be taken into account • If you helped to make society more sinful for others eg you supported abortion or helped make pornography more available/ acceptable – you will be judged on this. Every person is judged individually by God when they die: They immediately receive the reward or punishment of their deeds on earth (heaven/ hell/ purgatory) Explain what the two kinds of judgement are. Why should people be judged on how they changed society for good or ill? **Do you find it a comforting thought that God will take the conditions you grew up in, into consideration, when judging your sins?

Is it fair? What does it tell you about God? What will you be judged on ? The judgment will embrace • all works, good or bad, • forgiven as well as unforgiven sins, • every idle word (Matthew 12:36), • every secret thought (1 Corinthians 4:5). • “Even the secret sins of the just will be made manifest”. This will not pain or shame the saints, since their sins only show God’s greater holiness and purity.

5. The Judgment of the Dead (Rev 20:11) Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it.The earth and the heavens fled from His presence. The sea, death & the underworld gave up the deadthat were in them .And I saw all the dead, great and small,standing before the throne. And books were opened, including the Book of Life. Each person was judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. Then death and the underworld was thrown into the lake of fire.The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of lifewas thrown into the lake of fire. 1.
