What is a risk assessment • Technique for preventing accidents and ill healthin SPORT and every day life. • Good practice • A legal requirement Who writes the risk assessment? • Sports centre managers • Teachers • Coaches
What does a risk assessment involve? Assessing the risk and hazards of a sport or activity. What is a: 1. Risk: A potential source of danger 2. Hazard: The possibility of something bad happening TASK: Make a list of 3 sporting activities (sports) and try and determine 5 risks and hazards you may encounter whilst taking part in each sport.
How do we remove the risk and hazards of sport participation? • Put control measures in place. • Further action What does this do? • Reduces the risk of injury and likely hood of it happening by putting in appropriate control measures What types of control measures are there? • Equipment • Rules • Facilities • Activities / people / participant
How to prevent injury further We can use specialist equipment / protective equipment Such as? • Helmets – cricket / American football • Padding – rugby / cricket • Coloured clothing – cricket / football • Specific surfaces – golf / football / cricket / badminton / basketball • Special footwear – athletics / ice skating / golf • Special clothing – under armour / cold & hot wear / wet suits / cricket whites • Facial wear – gum shields / glasses / sun glasses

What needs to be handed in! • 2 lesson plans (with risk assessment) per person (sport & fitness) • Equipment list for your lesson • Any coursework you have completed (Unit 2 – practical sport & Unit 6 – leading sports activities TASK 1 (2 articles). • Exercise books
