  2. Animals The Springbok is considered to be South Africa’s national animal and symbol. They love to jump up and down all the time.
  3. Animals The wild dog is also native to South Africa it is highly endangered. Lions are predators of wild dogs. They are also carnivores.

  5. Animals Another animal in South Africa is the white lion. The white lion is very rare in South Africa. Only 3 tribes of white lions are left in South Africa because they are unprotected by the law.

  11. Politics South African citizens over 18 are allowed to vote. South Africa has had fully inclusive democratic elections in 1994, 1999, 2004, and 2009. Before 1994, only white South Africans were allowed to vote for the national government.
  12. Leaders Jacob Zuma is South Africa’s current president. He has served since 2009.
  13. Government The parliament is made up of two houses, the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces. The National Assembly is the more influential, passing legislation and overseeing executive performance. Members of the National Assembly serve for a term of 5 years.
