  2. What is a video game addiction? • A video game addiction is like any other addiction. It is it has symptoms and pros and cons. And in children it can effect schooling. • Non school hours are on the computer and playing video games • Falling asleep in school • Falling behind with assignments • Worsening grades • Lying about video game and computer use • Choosing to use computer or play video games instead of seeing friends • Dropping out of social groups • Irritable when not gaming

Symptoms • Studies have shown that gaming in a virtual world induces hunger, anger and laziness • Some other symptoms include: • Preoccupation • Downplaying computer use • Lack of control • Loss of time • Negative impact on other areas of life • Hiding from negative or uncomfortable feelings or situations • Defensiveness • Misuse of money • Mixed emotions • Sleepiness

What makes a game addictive? • Hooks have been implanted into the games to make you want to play more and more. • Examples: • The high score • Beating the game • Role playing • Discovery • Relationships • Many games have been programmed to make you lose to keep you going even longer and making you think that it is a challenge.

Physical consequences • Even video game addiction has its physical addiction • Some examples may be: • Carpal tunnel syndrome • Migraines • Sleep disturbances • Back aches • Eating irregularities • Poor personal hygiene • the severity of these effects will differ from the severity of the addiction

Social consequences • Having a video game addiction can effect your personal and your social life. • Most people notice that their relationships fade away or disappear even some marriages will disintegrate. • The gamer will sit and do nothing but play video games and that will make others angry or they will get bored hanging around with you, so in other word we don’t like watching you play video games

Violence • The use of violence in video games is inducing the use of violence in reality. • The game “call of duty 4” is graphic and “life-like” you take the role of a British or US soldier who is sent to military hot spots to defeat the worlds most dangerous enemies. • This is one of the most violent and the most graphic games in the modern times amazon.com

Top 5 signs that you need help • You feel really happy when your online or when your playing games but as soon as you have to stop you get angry or upset • You think about going online when you are supposed to be focusing on other things like school or having dinner with your family • Your friends or family asks you what your doing in your spare time and you lie about it or laugh it off but inside you know they have a point • You spend more time with your controller or keyboard than with your friends • You get up in the middle of the night to play because you cant think of anything else
