  2. Objectives • Identify the things to consider before buying their child a cell phone. • Identify risks associated with cell phone usage. • Identify safety tips associated with cell phone usage.

  4. Disadvantages Cost - excessive texts - usual damage by kids Usage - use to cheat at exams - to spread rumors - to send inappropriate photos and videos at school - affects security as it can detonate bombs if there was one

  5. Disadvantages In cyberbullying - send threatening, rude or mean texts to another child’s cell phone - spammers deceive childen Effect - can damage the brain

  6. Disadvantages Security - ie. If they are on their cell phone while crossing the street and not paying attention, they are at risk for injury or death. In Sext Text - to entice children

  7. What is Sexting? • Sexting involves the sending of a sexual message and/or revealing photos to another person. • Sending semi-nude or nude pictures from a cell phone can cause unwanted pregnancies

  8. Tips to Prevent Sexting 1. Think first about the consequences. 2. Never take images of themselves they wouldn’t want everyone to see. 3. Report any nude pictures they receive on their cell phone to a trusted adult.

  9. Cell Phone Safety Tips 1. Teach the kids how to properly use the cellphone. - Point out features like the key lock. - Teach how to put the phone on silent and setting the alarm. - Phones should be programmed with parents’ contact information and emergency numbers.

  10. Cell Phone Safety Tips 2. Limit the usage of phones. 3. Teach them about phone budgeting. 4. Teach them to understand that the cell phone is not a toy. 5. Don’t publish their numbers in public. 6. Learn the proper cell phone etiquette. 7. Report to the authority if harassed on cell phones.
