  2. Timeline • Use page 776 to add the following events to your timeline if they are not already there • Germans begin fighting the Soviets • German troops approach Stalingrad • Germany surrenders at Stalingrad

  3. Battle of Stalingrad • Read the quotes and, based on your own knowledge and on page 776 in the textbook, try to determine who wrote each one (a leader from one of the sides? A soldier from one of the sides?)

North Africa and Italy • Operation Torch began on November 8, 1942 • American and British troops invaded North Africa, which was controlled by the Axis • Allied forces drove Eastward, defeating the Axis army • Allied forces, especially tanks, had a large advantage because of the greater oil and fuel supplies available to them
