  5. Roles • Subject matter experts (Psst! That’s you!) • Organize, write, revise content • Enter content in CMS • Get content approved within department • Portal Services team • Consults with units and plans content • Works with SMEs to identify, organize, and create content • Edits and launches all Blink and TritonLink pages • Responds to update requests • Makes sure pages are reviewed and updated • Questions? • blinkhelp@ucsd.edu

  6. Anatomy of a Blink Page Parts of the whole: The CMS is broken down into parts called “assets.” These assets help you create a whole Blink page

  7. Tips for Getting Started • Use Firefox or IE version 7 or 8 (Firefox/Safari for Mac) • Have two tabs/windows open (Ctrl + t) (Ctrl + n) • Name folders and pages in all lowercase and use dashes instead of spaces (keep names as short as possible)

  8. Creating an Article Page • Most informational pages in Blink use the article template • Log in • Create folder • Exercise–Create a new article page

  9. Creating a Drawer Page • How-to pages, checklists, FAQs, and menu pages use the drawer template • Exercise–Create a new drawer page

Publishing Stage (Dress Rehearsal) Live (Showtime!) • http://stage-blink.ucsd.edu • YOU, the SME, can publish to stage. • This lets you share the page with others (your supervisor, co-worker, anyone who needs to approve) • THE PUBLIC CAN’T SEE THIS! • http://blink.ucsd.edu • Portal Services “launches” the page to the public site: Blink • This is the “official” publishing • THE PUBLIC CAN SEE THIS

Editing an Existing Page • Minor changes (e.g., typos, date changes) just e-mail blinkhelp@ucsd.edu with the requested change for faster service • Bigger changes (e.g., a paragraph, an entire table, content overhaul) copy the page into your draft folder and make the necessary changes • Exercise–Copy live page into draft folder
