Afghan Air Force • History: • Began in 1924 • By 1960 the AAF consisted of 100 combat aircraft • The AAF was strongest in the 1980’s and early 1990’s, producing some concern in neighboring countries • Future training will take place at Shindand Air Base in Western Afghanistan • In the 1960’s and the 1990’s the Afghan Military in general received weapons from the Soviet Union

  3. Manpower and Expenditures • Manpower fit for military service: • Males age 16-49: 4,050,222 • Females age 16-49: 3,797,087 • Manpower reaching militarily significant age annually: • Male: 392,116 • Female: 370,295
