DomenicoGhirlandaio (1449-1494) Domensio was the eldest of six children, although only him and two of his brothers survived childhood. He became a goldsmith’s apprentice and created jewelry, but would often paint the people who commonly passed by the shop. Some of his earliest major works are the frescos he was commissioned to paint for the Santa Fina Chapel in 1477. His later works included many portraits, such as the one he painted of Lorenzo de' Medici. He is also famed for having had Michelangelo as one of his apprentices, although this was only for a short time.
Hans Holbein The Younger (1497 - 1543) Holbein was born in Ausburg, Germany in 1497. He was an artist and print maker who worked in a northern renaissance style and is thought to be one of the greatest portraitists of the 16th century. He was very diverse and created religious art, satire, reformation propaganda, and made a significant contribution to the history of book design. He is called “the Younger” to distinguish him from his father, Hans Holbein The Elder. By1535, he was King Henry VIII's painter, a position he held until his death in 1543.
