Netiquette • Research before Asking • Frequently asked questions • Search the internet • Search the newsgroup • Use Emotion • Don’t use capitalizations – designates SHOUTING • To emphasize a word use *stars*, underline, italics SPARINGLY!! • Do not randomly forward emails • Jokes, warm fuzzy stories, cutesy pictures • Send them only to those who you really think will enjoy the email

Netiquette - Yep More! • To, CC and BCC • To: the person you are expecting response or action from • CC: the person you want to be informed but don’t require action • BCC: to protect others identity and contact information especially if from different groups • Reply and Reply All • Reply goes to sender only • Reply all goes to everyone who received the email • Watch how you respond (don’t get personal) • Does everyone need to hear your response???

SAFETY!!!!!! • Virus Protection • Up to date • Check harddrive often = scan it • Back ups (harddrive completely occaisionaly - files regularly) • Emails • Unsolicited • Unclear Subject matter • Unknown sender • Looks suspicious – don’t open it • Just because it says in the email that the information was verified – verify it yourself • Paypal, Ebay, Banks gets spammed all the time, don’t use a link to these sites within the email go directly to the site itself!

Should I or Shouldn’t I • Be mindful of who you forward emails to • Will they really be interested in this • Remove any extra lines and spaces to make it easier to read • Just a trivia number…… how many emails do you personally receive in a day…… • Bear in mind the recipient’s • Political • Religious • Economic • Nationality
