  1. INSPE internship 6 month internship proposal for a Ph.D. student at WUTwithin the framework of WUT-I2EN Transnational Agreement • Location:CEA-Cadarache • Internship duration:2x3 months • Coaching: Romain le-Tellier, romain.le-tellier@cea.fr and Laurent Saaslaurent.saas@cea.fr • Severe Accident Laboratory– Light Water Reactors and Sodium Fast Reactors Technology

  2. Nuclear Energy DivisionNuclear Technology Department (DTN)Transfers & Severe Accidents Measurements & Modelling Section (SMTA)Severe Accidents Physics & Modelling Laboratory (LPMA) • Thermalhydraulic modelling of a steel metal layer on top of a corium pool in a PWR under severe accident conditions • This project will consist in performing detailed numerical calculations and analyses associated to these two phenomena (for example, using CFD for the first point) in order to help improving the associated 0D models developed in the PROCOR platform. • Extension of the model of the fusion propagation in the metallic layer of the molten corium pool. Preparation of the different cases for the LWR applications – configuration of the molten pool (liquid + solid, liquid only, solid only initial states), definition of the transient event managers for the initial states (ex. Liquid only to solid + liquid), establishment of the boundary conditions for the metallic layer (water cooled, radiative, etc.) • Development of the model in the Java programming language. • Coaching:romain.le-tellier@cea.fr

  3. Nuclear Energy DivisionNuclear Technology Department (DTN)Transfers & Severe Accidents Measurements & Modelling Section (SMTA)Severe Accidents Physics & Modelling Laboratory (LPMA) • Simplified thermo-mechanical modelling of the core support plate in a PWR under severe accident conditions • The goal of the project is to develop a simplified model coupling thermal and mechanical models in the PROCOR framework. Then the thermal and mechanical stabilization of the corium pool above the core support plate will be studied for different scenarios using this simplified model. One of the perspectives of this modelling approach may be an extension to the vessel failure modelling taking into account the pressure in the vessel. • Development of the model estimating the time of the lower core support plate failure due to the interaction and stress induced by the molten corium pool. Build of the model on the basis of the Larson Miller Parameter evaluation and integration of the model with the existing environment of the PROCOR platform in the Java language. • Studies of the uncertainties associated to the core support plate model with the use of the URANIE software based on the root language. • Coaching:laurent.saas@cea.fr

  4. Nuclear Energy DivisionNuclear Technology Department (DTN)Transfers & Severe Accidents Measurements & Modelling Section (SMTA)Severe Accidents Physics & Modelling Laboratory (LPMA) • Short administrative procedure in CEA – PC account, mail account, CEA pass, • Software installation – PROCOR, URANIE, TOLBIAC • Lecture of scientific articles associated with phenomena needed for subject • PROCOR platform (PROpagationCORe) written in Java • New environment - First steps in Java – object oriented programming • Linux for all software but Remote Desktop of Windows available • Preparation scheme of work, recognizing the exsisting models in platform, developing new simplified models, comparing obtained results • Scilab -software for numerical computation and plotting • First step in Statistical analysis using URANIE platform. Obtained results can be analised by TreeViewer.

  5. Nuclear Energy DivisionNuclear Technology Department (DTN)Transfers & Severe Accidents Measurements & Modelling Section (SMTA)Severe Accidents Physics & Modelling Laboratory (LPMA) • General impressions: • Very good coaching from CEA experts • Many things to study and good possibility to gain the knowledge in code developing • Good organization of time in Laboratory • Nice atmosphere in Centre • CEA Cadarache neighborhood – average high living costs
