Academics SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM = SUCCESS ON THE MAT! KHSAA Rule Student must pass 5 classes of the Fall Semester to be eligible for competition. Trojan Wrestling Rule If a student has a 2.0 or below, or has an “F”, they will be required 2 hours of study hall a week before school.
Letter Policy • 40 POINTS TO LETTER ( 12 OF THE 40 MUST BE VARSITY) • QUALIFYING FOR THE STATE TOURNAMENT • A SENIOR WHO IS IN GOOD STANDING BUT DOES NOT MEET CRITERIA • COACHES DISCRETION
Practice Regulations • BE ON TIME ( IRON MAN AWARD) • BE PEPARED • UNEXCUSED ABSENCES WILL RESULT IN SUSPENSION OR DISMISSAL FROM THE TEAM. 1ST OFFENSE (SUSPENSION FROM CONTEST) 2ND OFFENSE (SUSPENSION FROM 2 CONTESTS) 3RD OFFENSE (DISMISSAL FROM TEAM) • ATHLETES MUST COMMUNICATE TO THE COACHING STAFF WHEN THEY WILL MISS A PRACTICE. EXCUSED=COMMUNICATION BUT WILL HAVE TO BE MADE UP.
Team Selection • TO BE A VARSITY WRESTLER AN INDIVIDUAL MUST EARN THEIR SPOT DAILY ON AND OFF THE MAT. • CHALLENGE MATCHES MAY OCCUR EVERY 2 WEEKS. THE INDIVIDUAL THAT WINS THE CHALLENGE MATCH WILL BE VARSITY IF THEY EARN THEIR SPOT EVERYDAY. IT IS AN HONOR AND PRIVALEGE TO REPRESENT THE ANDOVER WRESTLING TEAM!
Trojan Style Team Expectations • HELP AND SUPPORT OTHER TEAMMATES • PRACTICE GOODSPORTSMANSHIP • BE ON TIME • PRACTICE LIKE A CHAMPION EVERDAY • HEADGEAR MUST BE WORN DURING PRACTICE • ALL WRESTLERS MUST SHOWER AFTER PRACTICE AND COMPETITION. • YES SIR, NO SIR TO COACHES AND OFFICIALS • BE A GOOD REPRESENTATIVE IN SCHOOL AND IN THE COMMUNITY.
Hydration • HYDRATION IS IMPORTANT IN EVERY SPORT, BUT IN WRESTLING IT HAS A SPECIAL IMPORTANCE. • ATHLETES ARE REQUIRED TO PASS A URINE TEST FOR HYDRATION STATUS BEFORE COMPETING. • THIS TEST WAS DESIGNED TO PREVENT WRESTLERS FROM ENGAGING IN DANGEROUS DEHYDRATION PRACTICES AS A MEANS TO MAKE WEIGHT. • PROPER HYDRATION IS ESSENTIAL FOR HEALTH AND OPTIMAL ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE. • MAINTAING PROPER HYDRATION AWAY FROM THE GYM IS EASY. SIMPLY DRINK WATER REGURALY TROUGHOUT THE DAY SO THAT YOUR URINE REMAINS CLEAR IN COLOR.
Hygiene • All wrestlers must do the following to ensure proper hygiene and prevent skin infections from being a member of our team. • Mats will be cleaned before and after practice. • All wrestlers will be required to shower after practice and competition.(Use antibacterial soap) • Wear long sleeve workout shirts during practice. • Use skin cream before competitions. • Wear clean practice gear daily. Includes headgear and kneepads. • Keep dirty workout clothes separate from other clothes. • Report all skin infections, cuts and abrasions to the coaching staff and trainer. • Do not share towels, gear or gear bags with other athletes.
Skin Care Products • Kennedy Skin Products: bluechipwrestling.com • Hibiclens Products: hibiclens.com (also sold at CVS) • Staphaseptic cream- Sold at CVS • Defense Soap: defensesoap.com • Mat Guard Products: www.matguardusa.com • Wrestlers need to purchase antibacterial soap that is used at school and at home. Also need antibacterial body wipes to use in between matches.
Wrestler Appearance • HAIR: CANNOT EXTEND BELOW EYEBROWS IN THE FRONT, BELOW EARLOBES ON SIDE, AND BELOW COLLAR ON THE BACK. • MUST ALSO BE CLEANLY SHAVEN. • FINGERNAILS MUST BE TRIMMED. • OFFICIALS WILL CHECK EACH WRESTLER BEFORE COMPETITION. • WRESTLERS WHO FAIL THE OFFICIALS INSPECTION WILL HAVE TO TRIM HAIR AND FINGERNAILS OR SHAVE OR WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO WRESTLE. COACHES MAY CUT HAIR AND IT WILL NOT BE A GOOD HAIR CUT. • MAKE SURE WRESTLER HAS A HAIR CUT THAT MEETS THE RULES IN THE RULE BOOK AND IT WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM!
Concussions • New Concussion Rule this year: • “Any athlete who exhibits signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with a concussion (such as loss of consciousness, headache, dizziness, confusion, or balance problems) shall be immediately removed from the contest and shall not return to play until cleared by an appropriate health care professional.”
Nutrition • Training and nutrition go hand and hand. Good training is complimented by eating a Healthy well balanced diet. Here are some Useful tips: • EAT 4-5 TIMES DAILY ( INCREASES METABOLISM & MAINTAINS BLOOD SUGAR LEVEL) • BALANCE EACH MEAL ( PROTEIN, CARBOHYDRATES, FRUIT AND VEGTABLES EVERY MEAL) • DRINK EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF WATER THROUGHOUT THE DAY. • POST WORK OUT NUTRITION( EAT WITHIN 30 MIN. OF A WORKOUT TO PROMOTE RECOVERY)
Good Carbohydrate Sources • VEGETABLES- BROCCOLI, CELERY, CUCUMBERS, PEAS, SPINACH, TOMATOES, MUSHROOMS. • FRUITS- APPLES, APRICOTS, BERRIES, GRAPEFRUITS, MELONS, PEACHES, PEARS. • GRAINS & BREADS- BAGELS, ENGLISH MUFFINS, GRITS, NOODLES, PASTA, POTATOES, WHITE RICE.

Parent/Fan Expectations • SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGE YOUR STUDENT ATHLETE • MODEL GOOD BEHAVIOR AND SPORTSMANSHIP • LET THE COACHES COACH AND OFFICIALS OFFICIATE • AFTER CONTEST ALLOW ATHLETE TIME AND SPACE.
