CBD is CBD is CBD, except for when CBD is mixed with other stuff Is Marijuana derived CBD any different than Hemp derived CBD? According to Franjo Grotenhermen, former Chairman of the International Association For Cannabinoid Medicines (2000-2003), “CBD is CBD…the human body does not care where the molecule comes from” (Attwell). Other research about the positive impact on CBD for animals suggests that if this is true for people, then “CBD is CBD” is also true for dogs. Read more about that in our article Cannabis as Medicine CBD is CBD is CBD, except for when CBD is mixed with other stuff. Just like oxygen is oxygen, whether we are breathing it at the top of a mountain or sitting on our front porch, the molecule is the same –O2, so long as it’s by itself. These misconceptions that hemp derived and marijuana derived CBD are fundamentally different stem from regulations that the government has regarding the legality of the CBD depending on where it was sourced. The reality however, being that active cannabinoid CBD, regardless its origin, is molecularly the same. The difference is in what else is mixed with it. According to Alice O’Leary, the wife of the late Robert C. Randall, the first man to legally smoke marijuana in 1976 and spear head the legalization of marijuana for medicinal purposes, notes there are two different varieties of the Cannabis plant in the eyes of the law and the scientific community. The first is the variety of Cannabis that contains more than 0.3% of psychoactive THC and can potentially induce an altered state of mind. The other is hemp variety of Cannabis, which contains less than 0.3% THC and elicits no psychoactive effect, or in other words, no high is experienced with use. Both Cannabis relatives contain cannabidiol (CBD), and according to O’Leary, “there is no difference between CBD derived from hemp and CBD derived from cannabis. The CBD molecule itself is the same, regardless of which plant it is extracted from” (O’Leary-Randall). 2440 Donna Maria Way Santa Rosa, CA 95401 info@cbdawgs.org | https://www.cbdawgs.org
In this case, nurture, not nature, is what really matters: But just like air, oxygen is not the only molecule making up its composition. Although CBD is CBD and oxygen is oxygen, be aware of the quality of the whole product since all products containing CBD are not created equal. The purity of the CBD is dependent on how it is grown and how the CBD is processed into an oil and other products made from its flower form. Make sure you are purchasing CBD that has been lab tested to ensure it quality, making sure it is pesticide free, and contains no harmful chemical additives from the extraction process. At CBDawgs, we lab test every batch of our family grown, clean co2 and ethanol extracted, hemp-derived CBD for purity standards. We know what is and is not in our products so that you can have confidence adding our CBD treats to your dog’s canine health plan. Look to see what is in season in our store! 2440 Donna Maria Way Santa Rosa, CA 95401 info@cbdawgs.org | https://www.cbdawgs.org
