But this Steam. . . and LEARN! I can CREATE!
STEM and STEAM • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biWQZlUl-vE • Arts integration is a natural fit! • Give students choices – ownership and a sense of belonging. • Great choice for differentiation by product. • http://blog.genyes.org/index.php/2011/10/21/ten-lessons-the-arts-and-stem-teach/
What does it look like? • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_datc2X76iQ&list=FLGuu3bC02f-TYFPogdH-ziQ&feature=mh_lolz
Cell Drawings • http://animoto.com/play/FWdw0e2JbjSfSTAccw7olA
Cell Song • http://animoto.com/play/51V9X8IQ1iJvv10UKzp97Q
But I’m not an Artist! • It is ok • Kids are naturally creative – you are just offering them an avenue for their creativity to meet their academic learning needs.
What tools are available? FOR FREE?!?! Really! and guess what – the tool doesn’t matter – let the learners find what works for them!
Visual Arts • Mac – Gimp • PC – Paint.net • iOS – Draw and Photopad
Performing Arts • Mac – iMovie • PC – Moviemaker • iOS – iMovie • For more functionality – Adobe Premiere Elements, Final Cut, etc. . .
Music • Mac – Garage Band • PC – Audacity • iOS – Garage Band
Integrate other learning styles in STEM • Robotics • Writing across the curriculum • Blogging and Reflection • I could go on for hours!!
WE HAVE TO REACH KIDS IN STEM FIELDS! Demystified, uncomplicated and engaged STEM education MUST be our goal – at ALL Levels!
