  2. City of Long Beach • Summer Food Service Program • Proud Sponsor since 1979. • Offer Summer Food lunches in 32 locations: North, West and Central areas. Over 125,000 meals served in 2012. • Summer Food is served at: Long Beach Parks & Community Centers Signal Hill Parks Non-Profit Sites • Serve lunches in a safe and supervised area.

  3. Promote Summer Food Service Program • Place large banners at all serving locations. • SFSP is promoted through local television several times during the summer program. • Long Beach Parks & Recreation website: Offers dates/locations of program and daily menus in both English & Spanish.

  4. Organized Activities • Summer Food Service Program • All participating sites are encouraged to promote recreational & physical activity after meals have been served. • Youth organized sports, play time, encourage meeting new friends.

  5. Vendor LBUSD Nutrition Services Branch • Summer Food Service Program • Vendor for over 3 decades. • Developed a strong working relationship. • Timely communication. • Common Goal: Offer the needy children in • the City of Long Beach a nutritious and • healthy lunch in a safe and supervised site.

  6. LBUSD – Menu Planning • Summer Food Service Program • Provide a nutritional and healthy lunch. • Review menu. • Present new items. • Serve hot meals…adding deli sandwich 1-4 • times monthly. • Example of items served: • Baked chicken tenders • Beef & bean burrito • Fresh fruit

  7. Working with LBUSD • Promote • Distribute SFSP flyers to school locations close to the serving sites before the program begins. • Routing • Ensure deliveries are met in a timely manner. • Communication • Provide daily contact with the kitchen are made to ensure the daily paperwork has been turned in by the sites/drivers.
