  2. Browsers into Borrowers • Four Modules that build on what Trainees learned in Frontline • develops the understanding and practicalskills to improve the look and appeal of the library for readers • shows how to adapt merchandising techniques to fit the library situation.

  3. Who for? • The course relies on the Trainee having completed Frontline, either in the short of full versions. • Staff who work directly with readers and books and can work off-counter • Staff in any library will find the course useful, whether it is RFID, refurbished, new or traditional.

  4. The course aims to: • develop new off-counter routines to improve the look and appeal of the library for readers • promote a practical sense of ownership of library space and responsibility for the way it looks and works • deploy existing resources to help readers explore a wider range of library stock and spaces • embed new ways of working into daily routine

  5. Interactive online exercises • help staff choose the right books for the right location • increase stock awareness • boost confidence by trying out new skills online before applying them in the library

  6. Four Modules • Each focuses on specific stock and different areas of the library. • Module 1 looks at appropriate choices of stock and display techniques that help readers explore the non-fiction and the children’s areas of the library.

  7. Module 2 explores promoting books for teenage readers and managing reader-centred promotions.

  8. Module 3 concentrates on managing and developing Quick Choice areas and picking appropriate stock.

  9. Module 4 – the Trainee applies what they have learned over a 3 week period in their own library.

  10. Trainees record their results in a personal Learning Log

  11. Each Module has an interactive Revision Quiz

  12. Frontline Supervisors assess work and support Trainees.

  13. Frontline Graduates discussion • Outcomes and results shared in an online forum • Trainees learn from colleagues in other authorities • Trainees join an online network of Graduates who are doing all the new courses

  14. The course aims to make an impact: • by setting practical tasks in the Trainee’s own place of work • through sharing ideas with other Trainees • by embedding quick, effective and time-saving solutions • by enabling Trainees to make a visible impact
