BACKGROUND • Teen Court established in August 1994 • The purpose of Teen Court is to divert less serious cases away from the more formal Juvenile Court. • A structured environment in which defendants are evaluated and judged by a jury of their peers • An opportunity for defendants to accept responsibility for their actions

  6. TEEN COURT FUNDING • $3 mandatory court cost on each case by persons convicted of a criminal statute or ordinance • Approximately $500,000 annual revenues • Repealed under Article V, Revision 7 effective July 1, 2004

  7. TEEN COURT FUNDING • FY 2005 $2.3 million remained • FY 2010 $400,000 available • Annual cost of program approximately $450,000 • Cash will be depleted in FY 2010
