  14. Local Wellness The Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004 required School Districts that participate in child nutrition programs to establish local wellness policies by the beginning of School Year 2006-2007.

  19. Simplified Summer (Lugar) • Variation of the SFSP. • Sponsors get maximum reimbursement (“meals times rates”). • May combine operating and administrative reimbursements for Program costs. • Grew out of the Lugar Pilot in 14 States during FY 2001–04. • 27 States participate.

  20. School Meals Initiative (SMI) TRAINING • Spring 2006, three 2-day training sessions • Approximately 200 State and FNS personnel, contractors, software vendors • Presentations and resources • State agencies and Regional offices • Materials on PartnerWeb

  21. SMI Field Training • FNS will continue visiting States • accompany State and Regional staff • assist in 2006-2009 reviews • 8 States visited since January 2007 • 3 visits planned for March 2007

  22. Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program • Became a permanent program in 8 states and 3 Indian Tribal Organizations • June 30, 2004 • Reauthorization Act provided mandatory $9,000,000 annually beginning FY2005

  23. Additional FFVP States • In 2006, Congress appropriated $6,000,000 for 6 additional states • Funding expires June 30, 2007
