  1. Practical no:2 Introduction to glass ware and laboratory equipments

  2. Glassware • People working in medical laborites are expose to several potential hazards. Careless handling of chemicals, glass ware or specimen to be tasted can cause injury and can be dangerous to life.

  3. pipette Definition: It is a piece of glass which is open at both ends and is use to transfer a calculated amount of solutions from one container to another container. Several types of pipettes are used in laboratory. • Calibrated /graduated pipette. • Volumetric pipette. • Automatic/micro pipette.

  4. classification • Blow out pipette. Blow out pipette are these pipette in which last drop is forced to blowing out called blow out pipette. e.g. graduated pipette • Drain out pipette. Those pipette in which last drop is not forced to blowing out are called drain out pipette. e.g. volumetric pipette.

  5. Serological pipette. In serological pipette, graduation is continued till tip of the pipette. These are used in pathology lab. Uses of pipette. • Graduated and serological pipette can transfer 1-100ml of solution. • The volumetric pipette are more accurate than graduated pipette and are use when accuracy is required. • Micropipette are used to transfer the solution in microliters. Precaution. Always use pipette filler or bulb sucker, while pipetting and never do mouth suction. Bulb suckeruse with the pipette

  6. flask Types of flask. Conical flask. conical flask are used for titration, these flasks are suitable for heating liquids Volumetric flask. Volumetric flasks are used for making up solutions to a known volume. Round bottom/boiling flask. The round bottoms types of flasks allow more uniform heating or boiling of liquid. Filtration flask/vacuum flask These are used for filtering solutions or removing of solvent Under reduced pressure.

  7. Measuring cylinder The measuring cylinder is used for measuring volume of solution or liquids to an accuracy of 1cm3 .

  8. Burette and stand The burette is used for measuring the volume of the solution or liquids to an accuracy of 0.1cm3

  9. Stirrer Stirrer is used to mix the liquids and chemical it is a glass rod.

  10. Beaker Beaker is used for containing specific amounts of chemicals or collection liquids as well all beaker are graduated.

  11. Bunsen Burner It is used for heating purpose in our laboratory work. Bunsen burner is composed of barrel, collar air hole and gas jet.

  12. Test Tube and Rack Test tube is used for heating or containing small amount of substance. All test tubes samples are placed in test tube rack.

  13. Test Tube Holder Test tube holder is used to holed the test tube while heating.

  14. Crucible Dish Crucible dish is used for heating solids directly over the flame.

  15. Evaporating Dish Evaporating dish is used for evaporating a liquid from a solution.

  16. Filter Funnel Filter funnel is used for separating and insoluble solid from a liquid with the help of a piece of filter paper.

  17. Reagent bottles Reagent bottles are used for to save the chemicals.

  18. Tripod stand and iron gauze Tripod stand is used for supporting an apparatus during heating. Iron gauze is used for uniform heating.
