  3. Caló – simplified version of Sanskrit. • Punjab region of northwestern India. • Fled during invasion of Arab and Mongolian warriors in 850 A.D. • 2 major migratory waves: • Asia to Europe and Egypt. • They arrived in Spain with the moors in 689.

Made their living as: tinkers (blacksmiths or pot-makers), wandering musicians, dancers, fortune-tellers, and begging and stealing. • Influence of music and songs by: Punjabi, Persian Zyriab, Classical Andalusian (Spanish) styles, Jewish Synagogue Chants, Arabic, and Mozarabic. • Influence of dance by East Indian dance forms such as: deep seated plie, outturned leg position, sharp angles of the body and arms, splayed fingers, rapid barrel turns, and the percussive foot movements.
