Impact on Plot: • When Percy gets angry at Nancy for picking on Grover during the field trip, the water in the fountain “grabs” her and she gets soaked. • This event gave Percy and the audience the first glimpse of his supernatural power to manipulate water and foreshadowed the identity of Percy’s father, Poseidon, the god of the sea. Possible Rationale for Change: • Percy’s special powers could be shown in a different way without the expense of an actress to play the part of Nancy. • For example, the movie’s beginning pool scene shows Percy’s ability to breathe underwater for an unusually long time.
