The NGN 2004 ITU-T Project • The Project has been launched at the SG13 Nov. 2002 meeting, a document describing the Project had then been prepared (TD19 Plen) • It contains a list of basic characteristics in order to give a common understanding to NGN • Standardization activities on the NGN in ITU-T have been listed in seven study areas :        1. General framework models for the NGN 2. Functional architecture models for the NGN       3.  End-to-end Quality of Service       4.  Service platforms (APIs)       5.  Network management       6. Security        7. Generalized mobility SG13 meeting, "futures" session, July 25, 2003

NGN 2004 Project : activities at this SG13 meeting • A management meeting of the NGN 2004 Project held on July 11 has confirmed a growing interest for the Project, proposals to expand its scope through new study areas were then formulated • Results of WP1/13 meeting : Four new study areas are introduced in the Project, a living list is created (two items) • New study areas are : • Network control architecture and protocols • Service capabilities and service architecture • Interoperability of services and network in the NGN • Numbering, naming and addressing (title only) • We noted that the coverage of service aspects in the Project still needs clarification, a specific liaison will be transmitted to SG16.
