  1. Datalink Systems Inc. KENWOOD LMR IS MUCH MORE THAN JUST VOICE Datalink Systems Inc. has been developing wireless IP packet data Communications Software for more than twelve years! This Power Point focuses on how our software solutions integrates with Kenwood’s NEXEDGE digital radios and earlier analog radios. Mercury is a variant of our DataNET software, modified to focus on Kenwood NEXEDGE and older analog mobile radios.

  2. Mercury softwareby Datalink Systems Inc. I.P. Packet Data Communications Software DataNET is not just another GPS tracking software program. It is a comprehensive wireless data solution used by Government Agencies and Corporations Worldwide. MERCURY for Kenwood, developed by Datalink Systems Inc. is a variant of our DataNET and works with both digital NEXEDGE and older analog radios. Mercury consists of three elements. DataGate which is the core IP routing module, and can be installed in any windows server. DataHost is the messaging and mapping module, installed in one or more workstation computers. WebClient is a web-browser version of DataHost, but has less features than DataHost. DataGate can link to SQL and other ODBC compliant databases . It is also available with AES-256 encryption for Government and Law Enforcements applications. Emails Emails can be sent over the internet to any NEXEDGE radio via Datalink’s email server. At this point in time Emails can only originate at the internet end. ( Outlook and Smart-phones). Contact Datalink for more information.

  3. DataNET by Datalink Systems Inc. An Introduction In 1996 Datalink Systems Inc. management took a different approach to developing GPS based tracking software. Rather than designing a GPS tracking hardware device and then creating base office tracking software to work with the device, Datalink’s engineers were tasked with developing a back-end software system capable of working with a range of devices, including those developed by other companies. This allowed for multiple networks and a wide range of devices to be fully integrated into a common system. The DataNET suite is a complete end-to-end software solution designed to integrate with a range of third-party hardware products. It can be installed on any Windows Server or PC, allowing complete control of the software without the cost and loss of control associated with an external provider. DataGate is the packet data IP routing software that can be operated as a central server, catering to a number of unrelated customers located anywhere there is Internet access, or sold to larger corporations or government agencies who wish to have complete control within their own network. DataGate can also augment an existing system adding new networks and features. DataGate will connect to an existing server through TCP/IP connections or common SQL database.

  4. DataGateIP routing software for larger corporations and Government agencies. Military and Law Enforcement, DataGate is our core IP data routing software and the AES-256 Encrypted version is used by Government agencies around the world. DataGate, DataHost and WebLink provides a complete end-to-end software solution based on a conventional client/server relationship, rather than an ASP service where a third party hosts the data and charges a monthly fee for access. DataGate is the packet data software routing hub. This can be operated as a central server, catering to a number of unrelated customers, or it can be sold to those customers who wish to have complete end-to-end control within their own network. DataHost and WebLink are Datalink's client software (workstation software) which connects to a DataGate over the Internet or intranet. THIRD-PARTY INTEGRATION DataGate can connect to third-party legacy systems using TCP/IP or simple text read/write flat files. Software development may be required. WIRELESS TELEMETRY DataGate is ideally suited as a transparent wireless link between remote telemetry devices and host HMI programs..

  5. DataHostfor workstationsRequired for advanced operation DataHost is the optional “client” program that resides on the customer’s computers, providing extensive tracking and reports options. DataHost is fully integrated with the following mapping programs. Google Maps, Google Earth, Open Streets, Mappoint and Bing. Other mapping programs can be used such as Streets-on-a-Disk and ESRI-GIS. Those may require some development. DataHost can also provide a NMEA GPS output for Marine Charts and 3rd. Party development. Mapping licenses may be required for some applications. Unlike the majority of ASP Web based AVL-GPS vehicle tracking services where a 3rd. Party hosts all the data DataHost stores all the historical data on the customer’s computer, allowing for instant recall and Global map zooming in seconds. DataHost is the “client” software located in customer’s computers and connects to a remote DataGate over the Internet, Intranet or local LAN. The embedded mapping program links are Google Maps, Bing Maps and Microsoft Mappoint.

  6. KenwoodNEXEDGE and FleetSync • Our Mercury GPS tracking and Email messaging software uses the Kenwood NEXEDGE radios, NXR repeaters and Datalink's DataGate IP router to route two-way data packets between remote NX and older analog (Fleetsync) radios and the fleet operators’ desktop or Laptop computers. • The Mercury software also allows 3rd party devices to be connected to the data communication ports on the rear of the NX radios with data being routed over the NEXEDGE network. (more details to be found later in this Power Point. • Mercury can operate in a basic mode simply processing GPS data from remote radios and two-way text messaging, or in advanced mode with a range of hardware connected to the radios. • Mercury will also work with analog radios using Fleetsync, however options will be limited. The following screen is typical of what the fleet operator will see on his Desktop PC or Laptop using any Web Browser when logged into our remote DataGate router.

  7. GPS + Email

  8. Email messaging via NEXEDGE and older analog radios using Fleetsync Mercury basic operation requires only one or more NEXEDGE or Fleetsync radios in the field and a base radio connected to a PC running our Kenwood Source program which routes the data to our remote DataGate. DataGate then routes the data to the customers computers. Mercury software can allow two-way email messaging between email programs and Kenwood NEXEDGE and older Fleetsync analog radios. This includes emails to and from Smart Phones such as Blackberry. Note! All emails must originate from a base email program such as Outlook or a Smart Phone. Analog Fleetsync emails are outbound only. Kenwood Email options are continually being enhanced providing more features. The current firmware release allows for one email and acknowledgement per session over NEXEDGE. If the radio operator does not respond to the first email, the next email will overwrite the previous. Future KW firmware releases will allow for multiple email storage in the radios. All emails are routed through Datalink’s email server. With Datalink’s Email service it is possible to also copy emails to the operators’ smart-phones should they be away from the vehicle. The screen above shows a GPS tracked asset with email address, double clicking on the address in the left side panel will open an email program.

  9. GPS tracking The mercury program also includes GPS tracking capability for all Kenwood radios so equipped. GPS tracking can be added to Kenwood NEXEDGE and Fleetsync radios as follows. • Install a Garmin internal GPS receiver with external antenna. • or • Connect an external GPS Receiver/Antenna to the rear data connector. Configure the mobile radios and base radio/PC to process emails and GPS data. For NX radios http://www.datalinksystemsinc.com/KW_guide_basic.html For Fleetsync radios http://www.datalinksystemsinc.com/KW_fleetsync.html Mapping options include Bing, Google Maps and Open Streets Maps.

  10. Advanced options When a customer wants more than basic GPS tracking and email messaging, Datalink offers a wide range of “add on” devices and multi-network options. MULTI-NETWORK OPERATION In situations where a remote worker and vehicle must always be in communication with the base office and VHF/UHF coverage is lost, the following is a typical example of what can be provided. • A Tracker i50 connected to the rear data connector on a NEXEDGE radio • A Garmin NUVI navigation and messaging device connected to the i50. • Or • A Mini-Laptop or Tablet PC running Datalink’s Mobius program connected to the Tracker i50. When local VHF/UHF network is lost the Tracker i50 will switch to internal Iridium modem and route all data over the satellite network until local coverage is recovered.

  11. Third Party hardwarefor Kenwood NX700/800 radios Mercury allows a choice of third party terminals to be connected to the RS-232 serial data connector on the rear of the NX700/800 mobile radios. Compatible terminals include Windows Tablets running our Mobius software, Motia iMDT-2000 terminals and the advanced Tracker i50B/C device which can provide multiple serial port connections including Garmin NUVI and Lone Worker devices and an optional OBDll engine computer interface. The Tracker i50 has an internal three axis accelerometer module which can monitor aggressive and dangerous driving habits including excessive speeds and dangerous cornering. The following screens provide more details about these terminals.

  12. Kenwood Mobile Radios and Mercury Mercury integrates NX radios with a range of data terminals and computers

  13. Multi-network add-on terminaladds Iridium Satellite and/or GSM networks to Kenwood NX700/800 radios with auto-switching when UHF/VHF network is lost. • Accelerometer chip measures “G” forces • Engine computer interface • Three external serial COM ports • 8 I/O ports • Internal Iridium modem (optional) • Internal GPRS modem (optional) • 12 channel GPS • Delayed power off • Sleep mode • Emergency alert capability • Dual network capability • Wi-Fi port The Tracker i50b designed by Datalink is probably the most advanced mobile data terminal available. Garmin nuvi add-on provides for two-way text messaging and map routing. http://www.datalinksystemsinc.com/KW_tracker_i50.html

  14. iMDT-2000 messaging terminal The iMDT-2000 is a low cost yet very adaptable mobile terminal which can deliver two-way text messaging, GPS location reporting, and other additional services unique to each client. With a total of four serial COM ports the MDT connects to the rear data port on Kenwood NX radios. The iMDT-2000 will also connect to Lone Worker safety system and other devices. http://www.motia.co.kr/english/main02.asp

  15. Tablet computers Laptops and tablet computers can be connected to NEXEDGE radios via a serial cable or Wi-Fi (requires a Wi-Fi module to be installed in the radio). Datalink’s Mobius software must be installed in the computer in order to provide two-way text messaging, file transfer and GPS “on-screen” mapping and navigation. A USB GPS dongle connected to the computer is required.

  16. Mobius Mobius, developed by Datalink Systems Inc. is a “windows” based software program for mobile laptops or ruggedized tablets. Mobius and Mercury can provide an "end to end" software solution over multiple networks.  Mobius would be installed in a mobile Laptop or Tablet P.C. connected to a Kenwood NX 700/800 mobile radio. At the base end DataGATE  routes the data to  DataHost workstations or 3rd. party programs.   Mobius can also provide on screen mapping and navigation  plus two-way text messaging. By adding a GPS receiver, the vehicle’s own position appears on the map as well as being transmitted to base DataHosts. http://www.datalinksystemsinc.com/KW_Mobius.html

  17. GARMINNUVItwo-way messaging and routing In the transportation of freight, time is money!  Drivers getting lost on route costs both time and fuel, and in today's economy the fleet manager must run an efficient operation.  By selecting Datalink's Mercury "back end" software and a Garmin nuvi Fleet Management Terminal such as the NUVI- 1490, drivers will be able to take the shortest and quickest route to any address with turn by turn visual track and voice directions. Garmin nuvi units will work with i50B Tracker units The power of the Mercury software allows the dispatcher to select a destination point on a map and to transmit the location over the radio link to the vehicle, where the Garmin unit will calculate the vehicle's current location and the best route to the destination point and display it for the driver to follow. Mecury will also allow two-way text messages to be exchanged between the dispatch desk and the driver. The driver can send a choice of "canned" messages.  The GPS location of the vehicle is automatically sent to the dispatcher's computer mapping display. 18. GPS receiver/antenna Hirschmann Car communications is in the process of developing a combined GPS antenna and processing receiver in on small housing this will have a 12 foot cable and mating DB-25 connector to plug into the rear data connector on NEXEDGE radios. This should be available in the 3nd quarter of 2011. http://www.hirschmann-car.com/English/contact/us/index.phtml
