CAViDS Consortium AMESim Heat Generation Model A CAViDS Consortium Project Advisory Board Report March 7, 2011
CAViDS Consortium Project Objective • Develop an AMESim heat generation model of a gearbox system which compares favorably with experimental results.
CAViDS Consortium Approach • Phase 1: Obtain software and familiarize. • Phase 2: M odel relevant systems: • FZG test stand at Caterpillar • Eaton heavy transmission • Eaton medium transmission
CAViDS Consortium Goals for Last Month • Tune heat transfer coefficient calculations • Extend model to include hydraulic sump • Extend model to include gears • Include FZG parameters • Obtain transmission parameters
CAViDS Consortium Last Month’s Accomplishments • Established initial correlation with Eaton transmission (churning only) • Matched Caterpillar’s dynasty model prediction with identical input • Included hydraulic sump in model • Built initial model with gears and internal mesh and churning loss predictions

CAViDS Consortium Next Month • Build detailed Eaton transmission model • Correlate with Eaton data (if available)
CAViDS Consortium Notes • Software easy to use • LMS has great support • Capabilities will meet our needs • University license $3000 for year
