IEEE Region Eight Chris Toumazou FRS, FREng, FIEEE, FIET, PhD, CEng, Professor of Circuit Design and Executive Director of Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College London. Research interests include high frequency analogue integrated circuit design for RF and low-power electronics for biomedical applications. Over 320 research papers. 23 patents, has been involved with a number of commercial ventures, including invention of one of the world's first analogue and digital mobile phones, for a Cellular Operator in Thailand. Founder and Chairman of 4 technology-based companies with applications spanning ultra low-power mobile technology and wireless glucose monitors (Toumaz Technology Ltd, UK), biomedical devices (Applied Bionics PTE, Singapore), Digital Audio Broadcasting (Future-Waves Pte Taiwan) and DNA Sequencing (DNA Electronics Ltd, UK).
IEEE Region Eight Wendy Hall Professor of Computer Science, University of Southampton. FREng, FBCS, FIET, CBE, Past President of BCS and of ACM. Southampton University’s first female professor of engineering. Research interests include the Semantic Web, hypermedia systems and link services, advanced knowledge technologies, digital libraries, decentralized information systems, and human computer interaction. Over 350 papers in areas such as hypermedia, multimedia, digital libraries, and distributed information systems. Founding director, with Prof. Sir Tim Berners-Lee, Prof, Nigel Shadbolt, and Daniel J. Weitzner, of the Web Science Research Initiative, a long-term research collaboration between the University of Southampton and MIT. Particularly prominent as a strong and vocal advocate for women’s opportunities and for the need to ensure that girls are not excluded from participation in science and engineering careers.
