Seven Criteria for Living • Feeding/Eating- to obtain energy • Movement-internal and/or external • Breathing or Respiration-exchange gases with the environment • Growth and Development-Living things become larger and/or more complicated as they grow. • Sensitivity-Living things react to changes around them. • Reproduction- All living things produce young. • Excretion-All living things need to remove waste from their bodies.

  3. Some nonliving things may show one or two of these criteria but living things will show all seven.

  4. Nonliving things can be divided into two groups • Those which were once part of a living thing • Those which were never part of a living thing

  5. The Living and Non-living Things Quiz • There are ten items. For each one in turn, you need to choose one of the three options. • Number your paper to 10 and write the name of the item and then your answer.
