  3. PREVIOUS HARMONIZATION • MAJOR EFFORT IN MID-1990’S • DIFFERENCES REMAINED • ONGOING HARMONIZATION: STUTTER DIALTONE DETECTION, RECEIVE VOLUME CONTROL • XDSL INTRODUCED NEW DIFFERENCES

  4. CURRENT COMPARISON • CS-03 ISSUE 9 – NOV. 2004 • TIA – 968-A AND ADDENDUMS • FCC PART 68 – HAC, VOLUME CONTROL • FEW DIFFERENCES OUTSTANDING • 2 MAJOR, OTHER MINOR

  5. MAJOR DIFFERENCES • SURGES – TYPE B SURGE NOT IN CANADA • XDSL REQUIREMENTS- NETWORK END LIMITS IN CANADA POSSIBLE SOLUTION: ADOPT TYPE B SURGE AND REMOVE NETWORK END REQUIREMENTS IN CS-03

  7. SINGLE TECHNICAL STANDARD -IF DIFFERENCES ARE RESOLVED, NEXT ISSUE OF TIA-968-A STANDARD COULD BE REFERENCED BY BOTH COUNTRIES FOR TECHNICAL TERMINAL ATTACHMENT LIMITS -ELIMINATE ONGOING HARMONIZATION ISSUES !

  8. PLANNING REVISION OF STANDARD • TIA-968 AND ADDENDUMS NEED TO BE INTEGRATED • OPPORTUNE TIME FOR GENERAL REVISION • COMMITTEE FREE TO CHOOSE FORMAT, TEXT,LAYOUT FOR NEXT ISSUE OF STANDARD

  9. ITEMS TO CONSIDER • CS-03 IS TECHNICALLY CLEARER -NO LEGALESE! • LOGICALLY DIVIDED IN 8 PARTS ACCORDING TO EQUIPMENT INTERFACE: ANALOG, DIGITAL, ISDN, XDSL,HAC,ETC. • TEST METHODS WOULD REMAIN IN TSB-31 • OBSOLETE REQUIREMENTS SHOULD BE ELIMINATED

  10. RECOMMENDATION • ASSUMING MAJOR DIFFERENCES CAN BE ELIMINATED: • PLAN TIA-968 REVISION TO INTEGRATE SELECTED WORDING AND LAYOUT FROM CS-03 ISSUE 9 • MAJOR EDITORIAL EFFORT • INCENTIVE FOR CANADA TO POINT TO SINGLE STANDARD

  11. DISCUSSION • COMMENTS? • CLARIFICATIONS? • OPINIONS? • RECOMMENDATIONS? • SUGGESTIONS?
