  4. More Non-Fiction writings: The Opposite of Fate: A Book of Musings (2003). The Kitchen God's Wife (1991), The Hundred Secret Senses (1995) and Saving Fish From Drowning (2005).

  5. Influences on writing style • Amy Tan and her mothers relationship always had its up’s and downs, • This influenced Amy’s writing because many of her stories were lyrically written tales of emotional conflict between Chinese-American Mothers and Daughters

Personal Details • Was always worried about her looks because she was a young Chinese girl in an American school • At age 8 she was reading a book a day • She always felt too smart and didn’t want to stand out • She continued to get good grades in math which made her parents push her even more to become a doctor • Her Father and brother died from brain tumors in the 1960’s
