  12. Financial situation in The Netherlands • Income has increased from 23.000 Euro in 2005 to 35.000 – 45.000 Euro in 2006. • Prices of apples were 10 % higher as in 2005. • Prices of pears werd 15 % lower as in 2005.

  14. Belgium (1) • Early flowering period • Good weather and fast development of the fruits (no rain in April) • Good fruit set • Harvest 2 weeks earlier • Apple : 41 Ton/ha • Pear : 34 Ton/ha

  15. Belgium (2) • Good fruit size • Jonagold : + 10 mm • 25/07/06 : 50 mm • 25/07/07 : 60 mm • Conference : + 12 mm • 25/07/06 : 40 mm • 25/07/07 : 52 mm • Good quality (no russeting – no scab) • BUT a lot of hail damage

Conclusion for Belgium • Acreage apple decreases (200 ha/year) • Jonagold and Jonagored remain the most important varieties ( > 60 %) • Small interest in new varieties (only Kanzi and Belgica) • Prices become better  new interest • Acreage pear increases (200 ha/year) • Only Conference (93 % in new orchards) • Increase will slow down

Conclusion for The Netherlands • Acreage apple decreases (200 ha/year) • Elstar remains the most important variety • Strong decrease for Jonagold/Jonagored • Interest in new varieties (especially Kanzi and Junami) • Prices become better • Acreage pear increases (200 ha/year) • Mostly Conference • Interest in Sweet Sensation ?
