Welcome! • This is the first Delegate Assembly meeting of 2007-08. • It is primarily going to be a meeting to lay a good foundation for the upcoming year.

Again Welcome • You are all busy so thank you for coming. • This is going to be a very exciting year—a lot people have put in a lot of good work. • Need volunteers.
The GA’s History • The GA is the graduate student govt. • We were founded in 1969 to represent the interested of all graduate students. • Anthony Hall & Grad Lounge
The GA’s Mission • Our mission is to advocate on behalf of and serve the graduate and professional students of the University of California, Berkeley. • This advocacy and service takes many forms.
The GA’s Mission • Represent and advocate. • Educate, organize, and mobilize. • Provide funding. • Offer programs and events. • Meet and interact with all other graduate students.
The Delegate Assembly • Delegates are the crucial component. • Delegates link the elected officials with the students by raising issues with, influencing, working with, and holding accountable the elected officials.
The Executive Board • In the absence of the Delegates Assembly (over summer and between meetings) the Executive Board acts for the GA. • The Executive Board must inform the Delegate Assembly of its decisions.
Legislation • Legislation is referred to as resolutions. • Standing Policy • Directed Action • Budget Amendment • Bylaws Amendment • Funding Procedure Approval • Emailed 1 week in advance
Legislation • Introduced to the Delegate Assembly, referred to committee(s), and re-introduced (with committee analysis) to Delegate Assembly for a vote. • 3/4 vote can override process and 1/2 vote can override referrals.
Logistics • Meetings are the first Thursday of every month at 5:30p-7:30p (5:00p is food). • Your presence is vital so please find an alternate (but they need to be certified) to attend if you are absent.
Logistics • Can’t miss more than two meetings (without sending your alternate). • Attendance is based on filling out the feedback form.
Logistics • All Delegate Assembly, Executive Board, and committee meetings are public.
Committees • Committees are at the core of this year. • Your participation is crucial to making the GA and the committees function. • 5-15 members per committee
Rest of the Meeting • Introduced to the GA folks without committees. • Introduced to the GA folks with committees. (Important to listen here.)
Rest of the Meeting • Pick your committees and do a fun activity. • Introduced to the ASUC.
Rest of the Meeting • Introduce two resolutions and refer them to committee(s) • Pick 3 Action Agenda Items, which guide the GA’s policy agenda for the year.
Rest of the Meeting • We currently have an interim Project Coordinator Liaison. • The Delegate Assembly must elect the permanent Project Coordinator Liaison.
